VARAK PDF: Editor, Sign & OCR for Mac, iPad and iPhone · Effective with VARAK 1.5 · Version 1.5

VARAK does not collect, store, transmit or sell any information about you or your documents. The application contains no networking code, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no account system. This page explains that in the detail a policy requires.

1. Who is responsible

VARAK: PDF Editor ("VARAK", "the app") is developed and published by Erdal Beyoğlu, an individual developer ("the developer", "I"). For the purposes of data protection law, the developer would be the controller of any personal data the app processed. As set out below, the app processes none on the developer's behalf.

2. What VARAK collects

Nothing. VARAK does not collect:

  • personal identifiers (name, e-mail address, Apple ID, device identifiers);
  • the contents, names, metadata or any derived information about the PDF files you open, edit, sign, redact or convert;
  • usage or diagnostic data, crash reports, or analytics of any kind;
  • location, contacts, photos, or any other data category on your device beyond the files you explicitly open in the app;
  • payment information (see section 5).

The app's App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected, which Apple defines as an app that collects no data from the device.

3. Your documents

Every operation VARAK performs on a document, including text editing, optical character recognition (OCR), redaction, form filling, digital signing, password protection, conversion to Word, Excel, images or text, comparison, compression and batch processing, is executed entirely by code running on your Mac, iPad or iPhone. No document, page, image, text extract or fingerprint is ever transmitted anywhere.

OCR uses recognition models bundled inside the app or Apple's on-device Vision framework. Fonts used to render edited text are either those embedded in your document or the open-licensed fonts bundled inside the app. The app has no mechanism for uploading a file, because none was built.

4. Information stored on your device

To function as a normal app, VARAK keeps a small amount of information in its own sandboxed container on your Mac, iPad or iPhone. This information stays on your device — unless you turn on the optional iCloud sync described below — and is deleted when you delete the app. It consists of:

WhatWhyWhere
Recent file list, the page you were on, a small page preview, and window stateSo Home can show recent documents, the Continue card and your layoutApp container, and the system's Recent Documents list
Autosave snapshots of open documentsSo unsaved work can be recovered after a crash or force-quitApp container; offered for recovery on next launch, removable with Discard
Signature and initials librarySo you can place a saved signature without redrawing itApp container; removable from the Sign gallery. On iPhone and iPad, also your own iCloud if you turn on iCloud sync
Comment author nameWritten into annotations you create, as every PDF reader doesApp container; editable from the VARAK menu
Preferences (appearance, zoom, sidebar)To remember how you like the app set upApp container
Purchase statusA local record that Pro has been unlocked, so features work offlineApp container; re-checked with Apple by Restore Purchases

Signatures you draw or import, and the author name you set, are written into the PDF files you sign or annotate, exactly as you would expect when signing or commenting on a document. Files you save are written where you choose to save them.

Optional iCloud sync (iPhone and iPad). If you turn on Sync Signatures & Packs with iCloud in Settings, the signatures you drew or typed and the Document Packs you created are kept in your own iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud key-value storage, so they appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. They travel between your devices and Apple's iCloud only — never to us, and we cannot see them. Signatures made from an image stay on the device where you made them. Sync is off unless you turn it on; turning it off stops it, and anything already on a device stays there until you delete it.

5. Purchases through the App Store

The optional VARAK PDF Pro unlock is an in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment, your Apple Account, receipts, refunds and family sharing. VARAK receives only a signed confirmation from Apple that the purchase is valid; it never sees your name, e-mail, payment method or any financial detail. Apple's handling of that transaction is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not by this one.

6. Network activity

VARAK contains no networking code and has no server. On the Mac the app does not even have permission to open a network connection. The only network communication associated with the app is performed by the operating system and the App Store on Apple's behalf: downloading and updating the app, and validating the in-app purchase. If you choose links from within the app (for example Privacy Policy, Terms of Use or Support), the system opens them in your default browser; the app itself does not fetch them.

Some features use Apple's own on-device frameworks: text recognition (Vision), translation (Translation) and, where available, Apple Intelligence for Explain and Ask. They run on your device. When you first translate into a new language, macOS, iPadOS or iOS may download that language once, as Apple's own apps do; the document itself is never sent. Shortcuts actions run on your device and return their result to the Shortcuts app on your device.

If you turn on iCloud sync on iPhone or iPad, iPadOS and iOS exchange your signatures and Document Packs with your own iCloud account (see section 4). Because VARAK itself has no network code, there is nothing else to opt out of and no tracking to disable.

7. Third parties

VARAK integrates no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, analytics providers, cloud services or artificial-intelligence services. The app is built from the developer's own code and open-source components under permissive licences (listed in the app's acknowledgements); none of them communicates with a server. No data is shared with, sold to, or received from any third party, because no data is collected.

8. Children

VARAK is a general-purpose productivity tool with no age restriction and no account. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR, the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), the CCPA and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection over personal data a controller holds about you. Because VARAK holds none, there is nothing to access, correct, export or delete on the developer's side. Everything the app stores is on your own device under your control: deleting the app from your device removes its container and everything listed in section 4.

If you nevertheless believe the developer holds personal data about you, for example because you e-mailed support, write to the address in section 11 and it will be handled promptly. Support e-mails are kept only as long as needed to resolve your request.

10. Changes to this policy

If a future version of VARAK ever changed what it does with data, this policy would be updated first and the change would be described in the app's release notes and on this page, with a new effective date. The developer's intention, stated plainly, is that this policy will keep saying "nothing".
